Moez

Went to a talk given by Moez Masoud, an Egyptian who hosts a show called Parables in the Qur’an.

He was in KL for a conference and made time to give a talk actually targeted at youth but ended up with 50-year old groupy mommies (including mine!)

But it was really good to listen to him talk in real life, it’s not the usual ceramah agama with an ustaz just talking about how you should do this but don’t do that.

I mean, he’s younger than me and have been exposed to the Western way of life since he was a kid, and it was less than 5 years ago that he made the 180-degree turn to fully embrace Islam.
What he said this afternoon was nothing new but being human, we always forget and need to be reminded constantly. And the way he tries to connect the Qur’an with what is going on in the world is really refreshing, using Eddie Vedder’s (Pearl Jam) lyrics to get a message across, with his totally American accent peppered with verses from the Qur’an.
