Japan : Jigoku Meguri
2005 January 15
The term jigoku means hell in japanese. Jigoku he ike is telling a person to go to hell. Anyway, in Beppu, which is famous for its natural hotsprings, there is a jigoku trail tour. So on our last day there, we went to see these hells (can use plural or not?) on earth.

First there was the Bouzu jigoku, basically a pond of grey-coloured hotspring with bubbles of mud, smelling of rotten eggs and shaped like a monk’s head, hence the name bouzu.

Next was the Umi jigoku. This one’s blue in colour, like the sea.

Then there’s the lake of blood, which is bloody red of course. I like this one best.
Besides the three I’ve mentioned, there are a few more scattered around Beppu that we didn’t visit.
