Departures pt. 2

They were walking towards the departure hall. People were going in and out – holiday makers, business travellers, visitors. Some walked hurriedly, others took their time, chatting as they walked with friends and family. She slowly reached for his hand as they walked and held it until they made it to their destination.

“I had a great time here. Thanks to you.”

“Don’t mention it. It was fun having you around.”

“Well, take care then.”

“Bye.”

A hug. A kiss. A whisper.

She turned and stepped into the hall where there was already a long queue at the security checkpoint, despite it being still very early in the day. She resisted the urge to look back to where he was standing and stared ahead until she made it pass security.

Vacation’s over, time to move on.
