Four-day-old car catches fire
By Musliza Mustafa
KUALA LUMPUR: It was a nightmare for Mohd Radzi Che Mohd, 25, when his Proton Gen.2 caught fire along Jalan Istana Baru yesterday.
Radzi and his uncle, Zulkifli Abdul, 39, however, escaped unhurt.
Radzi, an operation executive with a private company here, said the incident occurred at 11.30pm while he was heading back to his parents home in Bukit Aman.
He said he noticed smoke coming out from under the hood of his four-day-old car, and stopped it along Jalan Istana Baru to have a look at the engine. Radzi decided to leave it that way when the smoke got thicker, and he and his uncle immediately got out from the car. Moments later, the car burst into flames.
Hang Tuah Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Rani Hanafiah said the station received a call at 11.58pm and arrived at the scene seven minutes later. Six firemen took about 10 minutes to put out the fire.
The cause of fire has yet to be determined.
I spoke to Radzi this evening. Apparently, Proton did offer him another car (a Wira, can you believe it?), and wanted to close the case. Which means that my junior will still need to make car loan payment to the finance company. He said he’s still deciding on whether to sue the carmaker or take the car, although many people had advised him to take the former course.
Kesian mamat tu. Terus trauma naik kereta baru. He said he’d rather buy a used car, as it’s likely to be safer…
