Baseball is not a sport I watch often. I don’t know most of the players, and don’t care about statistics. But I do keep track of a few Japanese players in the Major League – Ichiro and Matsui – to be precise.
Ichiro is currently aiming to match and maybe beat an 84 year-old record for most hits in a season. That is certainly something to watch. He already have 255 hits, needs two more to match the record with four games left.
This guy is now in his fourth season with the Seattle Mariners and really, he’s awesome (to use an American term). The first Japanese position player in the Major league (they were all pitchers before) and had made a mark from the start. Plus, he looks really good in Mariners uniform. Heh.
Update: He has done it! On Friday Oct 1st, Ichiro broke the old record after hitting his 258th of the year.
